There are three types of recordings: 1) "Non-Event" Impromptu Recordings, 2) Scheduled Event Recordings, and 3) Event Backup Recordings.
Non-Event and Event recordings are created by manually clicking the Start Recording button and are instantly available to you and/or your audience within seconds of the end of your call. Backup recordings are made automatically for scheduled events, even if you forget to click the Start Recording button. See this FAQ for more information about backup recordings.
Non-Event Recordings
For unscheduled conference calls, navigate to the Phone Control tab, then click on Non-Event-Recordings, and click "Start Recording:"
Event Recordings
For your scheduled events, first access the Control Panel for your event by clicking on the link from the My Events page:
If You Are Showing Slides
If you are showing slides, you must show your first slide BEFORE starting the recording for the replay to work properly. If you are not showing slides, skip this step.
Navigate to the Recordings Menu and click Start Recording:
Recording Tips
You must be dialed in to the conference line as a host to make a recording.
The recordings you make for scheduled events are instantly available on your replay page within seconds of the end of your event.
An automatic backup recording is made for every event you schedule from your My Events page whether or not you click the "Start Recording" button.
You can change or edit the recordings that appear on your replay page from the Event Management > Recordings area
If you have a long call, break it into smaller recording clips by stopping the recording and then re-starting. You might try 30-minute or even 15-minute clips.
Event recordings (Replays) will be available from inside your account and our public event pages as long as your account with us remains active. However, Non-event recordings and Backup recordings are only accessible from inside your account and expire after 30 days.
To use a computer microphone to make a recording, the best option is to use Skype. See Skype instructions here.

Is there a way to start recording from the phone? Like pressing *8 to record... or something like that?

No, I'm afraid at this time there is no option to start a recording using commands from a touch tone phone. You will need access to the web control panel or members login page to initiate a recording.

I'm new.... So, there's no way to just log in as the host, and then record? I have to actually use the telephone to log in as the host, to record?
If sok, will you all be updating this to allow hosts to login and be able to record? I'd love that. It's cheaper, easier, quicker, and more convenient for me!

By 'log in as host', I assume you mean using a computer microphone to host your calls. I'm afraid at this time the only way a host can log in is by dialing in by phone. If you want to use a computer microphone to host a call, the best option will be to dial in using skype:
We have no plans to update the system to include built in voice over internet support, but the skype access is fairly easy to use once you learn the procedure.

Backup recordings can be accessed for 30 days from the (my events > event title > event recordings) page of your account. After 30 days, it is possible for our engineers to restore the backup recording for you if you did not get a chance to download it.

Hi Jon,
how can I extract the recording and download it to my laptop for later use? I have clicked on download and then tried to 'save as' but it only saves it as a webarchive file. I want to have the mp3 so it can be played on other devices
many thanks
Andrew

Andrew, to download the mp3 file to your computer, first navigate to the (my events > event title > event recordings) page of your account. From there, right click (do not left click) on the mp3 link, then select to 'save as'. To right click on a mac, hold down the control key while clicking. If you click on the link directly, it will begin playing in your browser, making it more difficult to download.

Hi,
I am wondering if I can pre-record an event, and then run it at the scheduled time as a "live" event?
thank you,
Lisa

Lisa, you can do this with our system, using either our "My Audios" or "Autopilot' playback features. My audios clips are manually played from the web control panel during any live event, while autopilot events are scheduled ahead of time. You can see details about each feature on our support pages:
I would like to control who gets access to the replay recording. Is there a way to do that?
Thanks!

Nancie, yes, you can disable the replay at any time from the (my events > event title > replay page settings) page. This will disable the public event page, but you will still have access to the mp3 recording from the 'event recordings' page.

Hi Jon,
Say, I'm sooo confused about what I'm not doing to create a SLIDE show with audio. I've done everything you said above. And have used the Skype feature for calls (joinconference). I made one slide recording a week or two ago, and from then on cannot seem to do another one. And I have clicked the wav not the mp3 button. ?!?!?! Help!
